Update: Toms River Township Council Finalizes Police Ordinance During Chaotic Council Meeting

February 20, 2024 09:09 am

Mayor Rodrick’s ordinance cutting the positions of two police captains has passed during a council meeting that could only be described as chaotic.

The ordinance passed with a conclusive 5-2 vote, in front of a crowd clad in blue Support the Police t-shirts.Paul Williams, a Toms River resident who actually ran for council last year, had to be escorted out of the meeting due to a disruptive outburst.

Another big talking point of the meeting was Councilman Quinslik’s complaint that there was not sufficient advertising of the meeting, as is required by law. Council Lamb responded with the fact that the crowd’s apperance is evidence enough of advertising, “if the meeting wasn’t advertised how is it that we are all here?”

While the things are looking grim for Team Police, they are still fighting, and are in the process of filing a petition for the council to either rescind the ordinance or to put it up for vote by the residents.
