The completion of the 2020 census signals a change in federal and state legislative districts. The upcoming changes affect the municipal representation in every town and county of NJ. These changes are meant to balance the number represented by the NJ legislature based on the population shifts demonstrated by the census.
The changes made to the township of Toms River will be that beginning in Jan 20, 2023, the township will be part of the 4rth congregational district instead of the 3rd congregational district. Toms River has been part of the 3rd district since 2013, and is currently represented by Democrat Andy Kim.
At the state level, Toms River has been in the 10th legislative district and will remain there . This district is represented by Senator Jim Holzapfel and Assemblymen Gregory McGuckin and John Catalano.
