Kaitlyn Culbert is a high school junior from Toms River on a mission. Kaitlyn is out to help others realize how important and beneficial bees are to the world. Recently, Kaitlyn was interviewed by CBS to discuss her interest, as well as how she won scientific awards for her outstanding research on bees.
Honeybees are a vital species in the ecosystem. They help pollinate plants and crops . Unfortunately, the future of honeybees are at stake. Colony Collapse Disorder is a devastating plague that is currently destroying multitudes of bees. It is caused by the deadly varroa destructor mite. Kaitlyn has been doing extensive research trying to test mists made from essential oils in an attempt to kill and stop the mites. She’s been reaching out to local Toms River beekeepers as well; interviewing them in her attempt to gather as much information as she can.
