The Toms River School District has recently received a $100,000 grant to expand a program offering instruction in the construction trades. The program is called SPEAR IT and will be funded until the 2024-2025 school year. SPEAR IT teaches high school children trades such electric work, cutting, measuring, using tools, and designing construction projects. The students will construct projects that help benefit their schools and their communities. For example, they will refurbish softball field benches and build lifeguard stands for local beachfronts.
The grant funding will allow students attending schools in both South Toms River and North Toms River. Funding will go towards tools, electrical equipment, instructors, and student certifications. Students, parents, and teachers are all looking forward to this new specialty program. SPEAR IT grant money has been obtained from The United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
