Toms River Residents Receiving High Amount of Scam Calls

March 02, 2023 07:23 am

The Toms River Police Department has sent out a notice warning residents of potential scamming attempts. There has been a sharp increase in phone calls being made to residents from unfamiliar numbers from individuals claiming to be members of the Toms River Police Department. The callers urge residents to send money immediately to help a family member who supposedly is in great need and is being held by the police. Scammers may sound very convincing and aim to keep others engaged in conversation for as long as possible to win their trust.

The Toms River Police Department would like to reiterate that they NEVER ask for money or  funds over the phone. If you receive such a call, hang up and report it. Better yet, don’t answer any unfamiliar number. Let the call  go straight to voicemail and then decide if it needs to be responded to.
