Toms River is moving ahead with plans to purchase 7 acres of wooded land off Silverton Rd for the cost of approximately $900,000.00. The municipal council approved the land acquisition on November 9. Toms River plans to purchase the wooded land through a regular sale or through the use of a significant domain if required.
Since mayor Maurice B “Mo” Hill Jr came into office 3 years ago his administration has purchased about 55 acres of open space. Acquisitions included the former Joey Harrison’s Surf Club located in Ortley Beach and two 16-acre properties in the North Dover section.
After the community was embroiled in a lengthy legal battle over a Route 9 land acquisition Toms River has been looking for sellers for vacant properties.
