Many residents from all over Toms River gathered tonight at the Toms River High School North auditorium to attend a meeting set by the environmental agency, Save Barnegat Bay, to protest a recent proposal by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The proposed settlement called for the 1,000 acres of the former Ciba-Geigy property to be turned into a nature preserve, with BASF given the opportunity to develop the remaining 255 acres.
Speakers included Mayor Mo Hill, along with other community activists, and many Toms River residents who are opposed to the development of this land.
