In a statement to Achdus News, Mrs. Nechama Norman of Norman Group Realtors addressed the recent repeal of the ordinance obligating all those selling their homes to obtain a certificate of occupancy. To obtain the certificate one had to pay fees, undergo intensive backgroung checks, and meet high safety standards.
“The CO idea was put into place to protect the buyers, and allow them to buy houses with complete transparency”, says Nechama. “In reality though, it benefited no one other than the Township’s bank account.
“The process was cumbersome and lengthy. Buyers were losing locked in interest rates which sometimes resulted in them losing the house they wanted to buy, and sellers weregot stuck investigating and paying for work previous owners had done”.
All in all was the repeal a good decision? Nechama says confidently, yes, “This is great news for those looking to buy and sell in Toms River. The buying and selling process can once again proceed smoothly.”
