The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has extended the public comment on its proposed settlement regarding natural resources damage at the Ciba Geigy property. A forum was conducted this past January to collect public comment on a proposal to leave 250 acres to develop on the property.
The proposed natural resource damage settlement with this chemical corporation was announced on December 5th. This proposal was criticized by many, as Toms River officials were not included in negotiation. Mayor Hill claims the settlement gives the energy corporation the ability to make money on the site after already receiving $17 million through township taxes.
