In a heartwarming demonstration of community collaboration, law enforcement agencies across Ocean County came together last Thursday at Steals & Deals in Toms River to collect toys for children in need. This event, spearheaded by the National Chaplains Association (NCA), exemplified the spirit of giving and the powerful bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The toy drive brought together over 20 local, county, and state agencies, including the Ocean County Department of Corrections, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, the New Jersey State Police, and numerous municipal police departments. These organizations united under a shared mission: to bring joy and hope to children and families throughout the county.
Toms River, serving as the central location for this initiative, witnessed overwhelming generosity as the toys—sponsored by Steals & Deals, local businesses, and residents—were prepared for distribution. Event sponsorship by Wellpoint NJ Community Health Care further underscored the commitment to both physical and emotional well-being in the community.
A Wellpoint representative expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “We love making sure that children are not only healthy but also happy. Thank you to the NCA and law enforcement for letting us be part of this wonderful effort.”
Ocean County Warden Joe Valenti described the day as “a pleasure,” adding, “We hope to bring smiles to the faces of many children with these toys.”
Sheriff Michael Mastronardy praised the community spirit, remarking, “This toy drive perfectly represents the relationship between our officers and the people we serve. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together to support those in need.”
A representative from the New Jersey State Police echoed this sentiment, highlighting the generosity of businesses and donors.
Among the many voices of appreciation, Lakewood Police Officer Jason Yahr succinctly captured the drive’s essence: “It is always a pleasure to make kids’ lives a bit happier!”
