Toms River Firefighters will be the recipients of $508,256 in federal funds. The money is to be used to help recruit and retain volunteers for fire related emergency response teams. The local fire district is in charge of six of the township’s nine fire stations.
The federally funded recruitment grant is administered by the DOH and is a tremendous help to the fire fighters of Toms River. A greater number of volunteers will help ensure that crews will be able to meet all fire related needs in a timely and responsive manner. The funds were made available through the SAFER grant program. This program provides funding directly to fire departments and volunteer services around the country.
