One of the goals for 2023, has the Toms River Township pushing for revitalization of downtown and protecting open space.
Mayor Hill said the town is committed to resist the proposed settlement between the state Department of Environmental Protection and BASF, which owns the former Ciba-Geigy site. The proposal as it stands now, would turn 1,000 acres into open space, while allowing BASF to retain 250 acres for future development. Mayor Hill wants them to turn over the 250 acres to Toms River, as compensation to the town for damage done.
In 2022, the township has protected 60 acres of open space.
