As reported in the Asbury Park Press, in a recent interview, the Mayor of Lakewood, Mayor Ray Coles said that township officials have projected that by the year 2030, the Lakewood population is expected to hit 220,000 with a birth rate of approximately 4,000 per year. The mayor says that the neighboring communities should help new residents that are moving in due to this growth. He encourages Lakewood’s surrounding towns to do their share for their own residents by allowing schools to be built in their own towns, thus accommodating their growing communities and alleviating the tax burden being placed on Lakewood taxpayers. He shares that there are currently between 7-8,000 children from Toms River and Jackson that are attending school in Lakewood.
