Toms River recently reached an exciting milestone. The township reached the 100th consecutive week of hosting the local “Pop The Trunk” program. The organization distributes free food to all residents of Ocean County. The initiative was named “Pop The Trunk” because volunteers asked drivers to pop their trunks and then proceeded to load them with groceries. These volunteers could have not done it without the involvement of “Fulfill” which provided the majority of the food. Former Councilman Terrence Turnbach, who volunteers at “Pop The Trunk”, publicly thanked Fulfill which was formerly known as “The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties”. Between the various food agencies that they serve, Fulfill currently prepares 972,000 meals per month. The demand for food is still 22% higher than before the pandemic.
“Pop The Trunk” takes place every Friday from 9 am to 1 pm at 1070 Hooper ave in Toms River. No registration or identification are required to participate.
