Toms River officials were upset to find out that the government slashed $14,421,851 in federal aid for their school system. This was a 33 percent decrease from last year’s allotment. Toms River superintendent Michael Citta reassured constituents that he would try to resolve what he referred to as a “fiscal apocalypse.”
Toms River was not alone in receiving cuts in funding, but the township suffered the largest loss in the county. Other townships that were affected were Brick ,Jackson, Lacey, and Stafford. The only Ocean County Districts that received a significant increase in funding were Barnegat and Lakewood.
